Evening Classes
The local college based in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis offers weekly Gaelic learning classes for different levels throughout the year. Set over a period of 8-12 weeks, the classes are for two hours every week and teach the fundamental phrases and grammar needed for everyday conversation. Lessons are also available in Colaisde Bheinn na Faoghla on the Isle of Benbecula. Gaelic Open Learners Higher Package
Lews Castle College is proud to offer their newly developed Higher Gaelic (learners) open learning course. The college has developed materials of the same level and quality as the standard Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) but in an innovative and flexible open learning format. This means you can study at home, in your own time, at your own pace with the knowledge that tutor support is available if and when you need it. The course can lead to full Higher Gaelic (learners) qualification, but if you don't want to sit an exam, you can simply study the units in the pack and gain SQA accreditation for them. Throughout the course, which is presented in thematic sections, such as Careers, Holidays and Media the student will be developing the four language skills of listening, reading, writing and talking. Students will alaso be given the opportunity to study modern Gaelic literature, from authors such as Iain Crichton Smith and John Murray.
