Lewis Highland Games - Geamannan Gaidhealach Leòdhais

Tong, Isle of Lewis

The Lewis Highland Games is no ordinary Highland Games! With huge local and visitor attendance, the event is becoming one of the most enjoyable days on Lewis' cultural calendar.

At the 2002 Lewis Highland Games, Chieftain Sandy Matheson, the Lord Lietenant of the Western Isles, hosted the event, which featured both traditional heavy and strongman events; champions from all over Scotland attended the events. Special guests included the 1st Battalion Highlander Pipes and Drums, a display from the Grampian Police Dog Handling section and the Airport Fire Tenders. The Piping and Accordion competitions were well attended by both locals and visitors. The highlight of the day was the Grande Parade of massed Pipers and Highland Dancers with the release if hundreds of balloons for a Jubilee Balloon race!
